My Philosophy...
“I believe every psychiatrist should understand hormone health.”
Hello, I’m Ayana.
I’m passionate about helping women make sense of the hormonal changes that can affect how they think, feel and function. My areas of expertise include PMS, PMDD, perimenopause, menopause and the ways in which hormonal changes can affect mood, cognition, emotional wellbeing and quality of life. These aren’t simply ‘part of being a woman’ – they deserve understanding, respect and the right treatment.
I am a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience and am passionate about holistic, personalised care. I believe women deserve to have their symptoms taken seriously and considered within the context of their individual lives, health histories and goals. Too often, women are left feeling unheard, uncertain, or told that their symptoms are something they must simply learn to live with.
My professional interests include ADHD and autism in women, and the ways hormonal changes can influence cognition, emotional wellbeing and neurodivergent experiences. This perspective helps me take a broader view of the factors that may be affecting a woman’s wellbeing.
My belief that psychiatrists should understand hormone health is what led me to pursue additional training in women’s hormone health and menopause management. As my practice evolved, I became increasingly aware of the ways hormonal fluctuations can affect how women think, feel and function, and how often these experiences fall between traditional healthcare boundaries. At The Women’s Hormone Clinic, we take every symptom and every woman seriously. I believe personalised hormone care should be the standard, not the exception.
I’m proud to work with a dedicated, expert team here at The Women’s Hormone Clinic. We’re united by a shared belief: no woman should be left to ‘just get on with it’ when it comes to her hormones.

How I work
I split my time between my work as a Consultant Psychiatrist within a large UK Adult ADHD service, my role as Founder and Medical Director of the Caribbean Mind & Hormone Clinic, and my work at The Women’s Hormone Clinic. Alongside clinical practice, I remain actively involved in research, writing and education. I am co-author of a book on ADHD in Black women, due to be published in 2027, and regularly contribute to professional and public discussions on women’s health, neurodiversity and the relationship between hormones and wellbeing.
When I'm not Working
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling and divide my time between the UK and the Caribbean. I’m happiest when I’m keeping active, whether that’s running, Pilates, yoga or spending time outdoors. More recently, I’ve developed a love of sailing and have enjoyed the challenge of developing new skills, from teamwork and leadership to becoming comfortable with being a beginner again. I also value meditation and the perspective it brings to both my personal and professional life.
